The WOW Factor

Hey all of you 'project runway' lovers of the amaaaaaazing Christian Siriano' (Season (4) winner. Yes, the project runway *prince* of the word fierceness... The inescapable fact is, Siriano is a true innovator. A serious leader with a major statement to impose, and undoubtedly makes no excuse for his set apart creativity and untouchable stamp as a designer. What I adore about his style, is that he knows who he is, and better yet, "how" to interpret his vision, in a way that impacts history. That is what I call, leader. Perhaps it was his experience working for the phenomenal queen of punk, "Vivienne Westwood" or rather his experience working with couture king Alexander McQueen, that may be partial to the inspiration that nurtured his inner genius and could be slightly paramount to his inventiveness and success as a designer. All in all, I am certain he is one of the 'rare' kinds that will stay around for a very, very long time. And I'll be buying every one of his books, and hopefully some of his pieces soon. (*smile*) I couldn't help but add oxygen to this memorable fashion history moment (below) to my blog-list of style musings. I ♥ this important recap. ♥

Below, is the moment many of us have been anxiously waiting on pins and needles for. The magical Spring 2009 collection in all of it's amazingness! Yet the only thing I wish to know now... is ...where oh where can I find this collection? So I can pull, and help create eternal praise to this remarkable design genius, who is only 22 years old. :) Wow. Yes, major Wow Factor here!!

And I think this about brings my musings to a close for now. Yet, I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next season!!!

Knitted Armor

Fascinated by knitwear, I stumbled upon Mark Fast and his gorgeous spring 2009 knitwear collection...just like knitwear masterminds: Sandra Backlund, Rodarte, Mark Fast is next on my List. The great thing about Fast is he's still emerging. A Canadian designer that moved to London to study fashion, he is 27 years old and fresh on the scene. Oh we love em young don't we? With all the talent and brains you can imagine, I find myself truly enamored by newcomers in the design game. And well, yes he's a keeper. Mark Fast sets himself apart...in a world where there's an overflowing field of trends, Fast has an armor of his own, that's knitwear.

Cheers!

Mod ♥ 's 60's Robots

Oh the 1960's! What can I say other than how I've been a complete fiend for all things reminiscent of the 1960's this season. It's no surprise the spotlight is on Mary Katrantzou. A newly merging designer that illustrates for spring 2009 how her inspiration from robots, constructivism, and the 1960's influenced her collection. "Katrantzou" uses *bold* adornment of 'trompe l’oeil' accessories (influenced from the era's of the 20's and 30's...) and drapes them beautifully over her glamorous body conscious dresses. Her collection is elegant, old world..although POP inspired and collective in design and consumer appeal. Her dresses are form fitting with baroque finishing and unique detailing. I'm not sure whether I adore the style, or the acid-pop colors more?

The Un-signed Hype

Swedish Fashion Week offers so many surprises! Spring 2009 is bursting with authentic designers such as design label "Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair." F.A.S.R began in 2004, as a new collection with an old soul. Understanding the layers to their origination, it's no shock to know their dedication to old world and classic style is the true intention behind their design movement. Maintaining classic craftsmanship and original tailoring is the motivation behind design duo Astrid Olsson and Lee Carter's alluring collection, and it's one that I can't keep my eyes off of. In the lusciousness of the fabrics, not only are the jersey textures draped to perfection, but it's also the form, fit, and structure of their pieces crafted in a classic pattern making cut, which sets them apart so dynamically. Yes, Sweden has various rising fashion designers, yet Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair is one that pushes the envelope of invention and creativity. Clearly, this is a label with standing power. As history tells it, "Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair" began as a simple shoemaker shop in London several generations ago...and look at what impact it's made on history. There's no wonder why you may sense a stroke of genius in all that embodies their collection, indeed it boasts a bit of depth with all of this history!

Buzz of 'The Cage'

The 'buzz of the week' for me happens to be stylist extraordinaire Elin Bjursell. With her eloquent eye for detail, and ability to forecast trends long before they emerge, her talent reps strong for Stockholm and Paris. She is also the creative mind behind the visuals for the "goth-thing" blog I wrote earlier this month. And while we are on the general topic of recognition, Bjursell has given plenty of notoriety to the "Cage" trend in various of her Hint Magazine editorials... indeed she's worthy of recognition at high paces. (Besides, quite a few of the designers she reps for I've written previous blogs about.) And how's that for excellent timing?
